China is set to collaborate with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan in a groundbreaking tourist train expedition that aims to revive the historic Silk Road legacy. This unique journey, linking Xi’an in China to Almaty in Kazakhstan, represents more than just a travel experience—it symbolizes a renewed commitment to strengthening cultural ties, boosting regional tourism, and fostering economic cooperation among these key Central Asian nations. By reconnecting ancient trade routes with modern infrastructure, the expedition offers an innovative platform to celebrate shared heritage, promote sustainable tourism, and enhance business and diplomatic relationships across Asia. This initiative highlights the growing importance of regional integration as countries work together to unlock new opportunities for growth and collaboration in the 21st century.

The train is scheduled to arrive in Almaty on May 31, carrying over 250 passengers. The group includes representatives from various sectors such as government agencies, business, science, culture, healthcare, sports, as well as tourists interested in exploring the region. Upon arrival, the guests will spend five days in Almaty, engaging in a range of activities designed to promote cultural exchange and cooperation.

During their stay, participants will have the opportunity to explore Almaty’s rich cultural heritage through a specially curated program. This includes visits to historical sites, participation in local fairs, attendance at symposiums, and involvement in business discussions that aim to foster partnerships between Central Asia and China. These events are expected to provide a platform for dialogue across multiple fields, enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration.

The tourist train will depart from Almaty on June 5, concluding this significant journey that highlights the growing connectivity between the two regions. The project represents a joint effort led by China’s National Development and Reform Commission, in collaboration with various Kazakh authorities and organizations. Key contributors include the Kazakh Tourism and Sports Ministry, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company, Foreign Ministry, Transport Ministry, Frontier Service, Interior Ministry, Almaty Tourism Department, and local tour operators.

This initiative builds on previous successes such as the inaugural Jibek Joly tourist train, which arrived in Tashkent on November 19 of the previous year. Such projects underscore the commitment of both nations to developing sustainable tourism routes that enhance cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and regional integration.

The introduction of the tourist train service between Xi’an and Almaty is a milestone in the broader efforts to deepen the ties between Central Asia and China. It is expected to boost tourism by offering travelers a unique way to experience the diverse landscapes, cultures, and business opportunities along this historic route.

By facilitating direct travel and organized cultural programs, the project supports ongoing diplomatic and economic initiatives, contributing to the development of stronger regional partnerships. As tourism continues to recover globally, such cross-border projects play an essential role in revitalizing local economies and promoting people-to-people connections.

The Almaty leg of the journey will also serve as a hub for networking among attendees from various professional backgrounds. The planned business talks and symposiums provide valuable opportunities for participants to explore new collaborations and exchange ideas on topics ranging from trade and investment to scientific research and cultural preservation.

Overall, this special tourist train journey is not only a celebration of the II Central Asia – China Summit but also a strategic effort to enhance connectivity and cooperation between the two regions. It highlights the importance of cultural diplomacy and tourism as key drivers for sustainable development and mutual growth.

China is joining Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan in an exclusive tourist train expedition designed to revive the Silk Road legacy by strengthening cultural ties, boosting tourism, and enhancing regional cooperation. This journey reconnects historic routes with modern collaboration for shared growth across Central Asia.

With support from multiple government bodies and tourism agencies, the project exemplifies successful international collaboration aimed at fostering closer ties and creating shared opportunities. The train route symbolizes a modern-day Silk Road, connecting peoples and economies through travel, dialogue, and cultural exchange.
